New users, check out this beginner’s guide post!!!

Welcome, new friends! Today is a rare open-registration day, so you’re really lucky to be able to get in directly. To help newcomers get up to speed quickly, I’ve put together an overview of the forum’s core features and a guide to avoiding common pitfalls:

:rocket: Getting Started Quickly

  • Initial level: New users who join through open registration start as Bronze Members. To unlock more features, such as private messaging, you need to reach Silver Member.
  • Checking your progress: Click your avatar in the top-right corner, then find the “↑” icon in the menu to view your trust level and upgrade progress.

:wrapped_gift: Must-Claim Perks and Activities

  • Daily check-in: It’s in the top-right corner of the interface. Silver Members can claim 5 Energy every day, and higher levels receive more. Energy is the forum’s universal currency, used for raffles and tipping, among other things.
  • Free domains: On the 16th of every month, you can visit the DNL platform (https://domain.nodeloc.com/) to register for free a short domain ending in loc.cc or rr.kg. Don’t miss this perk.
  • Flood King and Literary Sage leaderboards: The top 20 members each month by number of posts and topics receive Energy rewards, and the top-ranked member also gets a permanent badge.

:warning: A Newcomer’s Guide to Avoiding Pitfalls

  • Don’t use scripts to level up: Wanting to level up quickly is understandable, but never use scripts to farm online time or replies. The consequences of getting caught are serious.
  • Choose the right section: Content involving proxies or VPN services must be posted in the private section, not in the public areas. Other technical, resource, and help-related topics also have corresponding tags; choosing the right one reduces the moderators’ workload.
  • Make your replies substantive: Don’t post empty replies like “666”, “1”, or “bd”. If you want to save a post, just use the bookmark feature.
  • Focus on the issue, not the person: Don’t use profanity or engage in personal attacks during discussions. If someone bothers you, don’t start a flame war—just click Report and let the moderators handle it.
  • Reselling resources is prohibited: Free resources provided by the forum, such as domains and hosting, may not be resold for profit.

:books: Advanced Guide

  • Check the announcements for the rules: The latest forum rules and community updates are pinned on the home page. For the full forum rules, see the post titled 🗒️Forum Rules V2.1.
  • Where to ask questions: If you have questions about forum features, post directly in the AskNodeLoc section.

:money_bag: Complete Guide to Earning Energy

Energy is the forum’s hard currency (it’s required to register or renew free second-level domains, enter raffles, and tip others). The main sources are as follows:

  • Daily check-in (most reliable): Check in at the top right. Silver Members receive 5 Energy per day, with higher levels receiving more.
  • Posts and replies (basic income): Creating a topic +5, replying to a post +2.
  • Being selected as the best answer (the fastest route to a windfall): If the topic author marks your reply as the “Best Answer”, you receive a one-time reward of +100 Energy.
Reporting violations when your report is accepted: if you submit a report and a moderator accepts it, you receive +10 Energy.
  • Inviting friends to register: When your invitation code is used and redeemed, you receive +10 Energy.
  • Monthly leaderboard rewards: The top 20 members each month on the “Flood King/Literary Sage” leaderboards receive extra Energy, and the top-ranked member also gets a permanent badge.
  • Raffles and tipping: You can use Energy to run a raffle in a post (participants’ Energy flows to you), and quality content may also receive tips from fellow members.
:warning: Important reminder: Some older methods no longer work
Reading time, the number of posts read, and liking other people’s posts no longer earn Energy. Don’t waste time idling for these rewards.

:red_question_mark: Quick Answers to Common Newcomer Questions

  • Q1: Where can I see my upgrade progress?
Click your avatar to open the sidebar, then click the “↑” icon.

  • Q2: How do I privately message someone?
You need to reach Silver Member to use this feature. Click someone’s avatar to see the private-message option.

  • Q3: Is there anything I should keep in mind when replying?
Don’t post empty replies like “666”, “1”, or “bd”. Use the bookmark feature to save posts, and thoughtful replies are more likely to be selected as the Best Answer and earn 100 Energy.

Finally, this site is built on Discourse, so its basic operation and logic are similar to those of many technical communities. Browse around a bit and you’ll get the hang of it. Enjoy your time on NodeLoc!

Do newcomers only have 1 energy? How can I reach Silver rank?

Same as above, please read carefully.

Received, thank you

Just to add, if newcomers want to introduce themselves, they can do so in this thread—there’s no need to start a new one.

Got it! The perks here are great.

Registering a domain requires 100 energy, so I can’t afford to register one :ac11:

Learn a thing or two :xhj21:

Go register.

Wuhu, thanks a lot bro!

I’ve seriously read and studied it! Support, bro!

How can I get energy? Checking in, making posts—anything else?

Registering a domain requires 100 energy—I can’t afford it :ac48:

You can get energy by checking in daily or by earning red envelopes for commenting on certain posts. You can also contribute computing power to modeloc and then obtain energy through market trading.

To level up, just keep browsing more posts.
